Women's soccer ties school-record for consecutive wins

Wheaton, Ill. – The Thunder women's soccer team tied the school record for consecutive victories on Friday with an 8-0 win against Millikin University at Joe Bean Stadium. Today's win was the team's 29th consecutive victory, tying the 29-match streak that was put together from Sept 4, 2004 until Sept. 15, 2005. Both of Wheaton's 29-match streaks are tied for the third-longest win streaks in Division III history. Wheaton is now 11-0-0 overall and 3-0-0 in the CCIW. Millikin falls to 7-3-0 overall and 0-1-0 in conference play.

Wheaton senior Sarah Richardson (PICTURED) gave Wheaton a 1-0 lead 13:20 into the match with a goal off of a double-assist from Libby Passiales and Shannon Wilkes. Sophomore Taryne Lee booted her 10th goal of the season 24:53 into the match off of another double-assist from Maria Della Torre and Passiales. Wheaton's lead increased to 3-0 32:32 into the match when Brittany Bergh scored thanks to a double-assist from Richardson and Melinda Lowry. Wheaton held a 4-0 lead at halftime as senior Kira Davis scored her first goal of the year off of a free kick.

Less than two minutes into the second half Jami Herrmann gave the Thunder a 5-0 lead when she scored off of a Passiales assist. Senior All-American Bethany Barton scored on a penalty kick 59:32 into the match for a 6-0 Wheaton advantage. Richardson's 13th goal of the season came 60:26 into the match and the final score of 8-0 was the result of a goal at the 61:50 mark by Herrmann.

Wheaton out-shot Millikin 42-3, with an 8-1 edge in corner kicks. Kristin Eggert played 45 minutes in Wheaton's goal. Justine Morey played 19 minutes, while Allison Ippel played 14 minutes and freshman Ingrid Erickson played the final 12 minutes, making two saves. Millikin goalkeeper Jennifer Hirsch played 64 minutes in the Millikin goal, making 13 saves, with eight goals allowed. Shawn Gibbs played the final 26 minutes, making two saves with no goals allowed.
