Wheaton, Ill. – The Thunder men's soccer team picked up its third consecutive win with a 2-0 victory against Millikin on Friday night at Joe Bean Stadium. Tonight's win was the team's second consecutive shutout, as the Thunder has out-scored opponents 12-1 over the last three matches.
Wheaton is now 6-2-1 on the season with a 2-1-0 record in CCIW play. Millikin falls to 3-6-1 overall and 0-2-0 in league play. Wheaton will return to action on October 5, with a critical CCIW match against conference-rival North Park.
Wheaton and the Big Blue battled through a scoreless tie in the first half of tonight's match. Junior Joel DeLass (PICTURED ABOVE) broke the tie when he collected a rebound and put it into the back of the net. DeLass' goal came off of a Matt Swartz assist 56:17 into the match. Senior Strider Elass (PICTURED RIGHT) scored his seventh goal of the season 78:38 into the match. Elass collected a Swartz assist and slipped it past Millikin goalkeeper Bruce Janek to extend the Wheaton lead to 2-0.
Wheaton out-shot Millikin 35-1, with a 10-0 advantage in corner kicks. Senior goalkeeper BJ Dons recorded his second consecutive shutout, with 90 minutes of scoreless soccer. Janek made 11 saves and allowed two goals in the Millikin net.
