Wheaton, Ill. - Wheaton wide receiver Chris Fossum has been selected as the CCIW “Player of the Week” on offense for his effort in last Saturday's 42-7 victory against Hope College. Wheaton is now 3-0 on the season and ranked seventh in this week's D3Football.com Top 25 poll. Saturday's win against Hope was Wheaton's 17th consecutive non-conference win during the regular season. The Thunder will open CCIW play on Saturday at 1 PM against Millikin at home.
Fossum recorded three catches, for 73 yards, including two touchdown receptions on Saturday night against the Flying Dutch. . The senior team tri-captain broke a 7-7 tie when he grabbed a five-yard touchdown catch late in the second quarter to give Wheaton a 14-7 lead. He also recorded a 57-yard grab and ran it into the end zone late in the third quarter.
This season Fossum has recorded 14 receptions for 269 yards, with four touchdowns. He is currently ranked second in the CCIW with an average of 19.2 yards reception; he is third in the league with an average of 89.7 receiving yards per game and is also third in the conference in scoring with his four touchdowns. In his career at Wheaton Fossum has collected 85 receptions for 1,569 yards, with 14 touchdowns.
