Stevens Point, Wis. - The Thunder women's soccer team continued its strong offensive start to the 2007 season with a 5-2 win at UW-Stevens Point on Wednesday afternoon. With the win Wheaton improves to 6-0-0 on the season and extends its winning streak to 24 consecutive victories. UW-Stevens Point is now 2-2-1 on the year. Wheaton will host #23-ranked Kenyon College on Saturday at 5 PM. Saturday's match will be broadcast on WETN at 88.1 FM in the Wheaton area.
The host Pointers took an early 1-0 lead when Kaylee Weise scored off of an Amanda Prawat assist just 2:17 into the match. Senior Sarah Richardson tied the match at 15:22 when she scored off of a Taryne Lee cross. Junior Kari Klynstra gave the Thunder a 2-1 lead when she blasted a shot frm 15-yards out, off of an assist from freshman Brittany Bergh. The Thunder held the 2-1 lead at halftime.
Weise recorded her second goal of the day, when she headed the ball into the net off of a Prawat assist 74:01 into the match to tie the match at 2-2. Lee (PICTURED) scored her third goal of the season less than a minute later when she booted the ball from 15-yards out into the net at the 74:36 mark of the match. Wheaton's lead increased to 4-2 on an own goal at the 77:38 mark of the match. The final score of 5-2 came as a result of Bergh's first collegiate goal, which she scored 88:42 into the match.
Wheaton out-shot the Pointers 21-7 and held a 7-0 advantage in corner kicks. Wheaton goalkeeper Kristin Eggert made two saves and allowed two goals. UW-Stevens Point goalkeeper Meredith DeCaluwe made seven saves and allowed five goals.
