Wheaton, Ill. - Dominican University defeated the Thunder men's soccer team 2-1 on Wednesday night at Joe Bean Stadium, to hand Wheaton its first loss of the season. Dominican improves to 3-2 overall, while Wheaton falls to 3-1-1.
Dominican's Matt Kochanowski was awarded a penalty kick that he knocked in 28:11 into the match to give the Stars a 1-0 lead. Thunder junior Ben Theimer (PICTURED) tied the match 37:21 into the contest when he scored off of a Strider Elass free kick. The score remained 1-1 at halftime. Kochanowski scored his second goal of the night off of a deflection of his own shot 56:41 into the contest to give the Stars a 2-1 lead that would become the final score.
Wheaton out-shot Dominican 13-8 and the Thunder held a 5-2 edge in corner kicks. Wheaton goalkeeper Micah Lamb made three saves and allowed one goal. Dominican netminder Piotr Sliwa made five saves and allowed one goal.
Wheaton will return to action on Friday night at 7:00. The Thunder will travel to Bloomington, Illinois to open its CCIW schedule against Illinois Wesleyan. Friday's match will be broadcast on WETN at 88.1 FM in the Wheaton area and on the internet at www.wetn.org.
