Volleyball team takes three of four at University of Dallas Invitational

Dallas, Texas - The Thunder volleyball team won three of its four matches on Friday and Saturday to earn a second place finish at the University of Dallas Invitational. Wheaton is now 6-3 on the season and will host University of Chicago on Tuesday night in King Arena.

The Thunder opened the tournament on Friday with a 3-0 (30-24, 30-21, 30-17) victory against Huntingdon College. Junior Lisa Jutsum recorded a team-high 13 kills. Junior Mallory Sullivan added nine kills, with 18 digs and two total blocks. Hannah McGinnis recorded nine kills, with three blocks and Annie Himmelhaver had 32 assists. Ruth Armstrong and Ashlie Pace each made 18 digs to tie for the team lead in the category. (BOXSCORE)

Friday's second match was a 3-0 Thunder win against the tournament hosts, University of Dallas 30-23, 30-19, 30-19. Sullivan led Wheaton with 17 kills and 15 digs. Kelli Miller added 10 kills, with three total blocks. Calla Young had nine kills and Justum added eight. McGinnis recorded a team-high five blocks, including three solos. Himmelhaver distributed 40 assists, with a team-high 21 digs. (BOXSCORE)

Wheaton opened Saturday with a 3-0 (30-25, 30-16, 30-21) win against Schreiner University. Sullivan made a team-high 14 kills, with 21 digs. Miller added 10 kills, while she and McGinnis each recorded three total blocks. Himmelhaver had 41 assists in the match, with six kills and two total blocks. (BOXSCORE)

Austin College, the tournament champion, defeated Wheaton 3-0 (30-19, 30-28, 30-23) in Saturday's final match for the Thunder. Jutsum and Young each led the Thunder with 10 kills. Sullivan added nine kills, with 31 digs. Himmelhaver recorded 23 assists, with 25 digs and Miller added four total blocks. (BOXSCORE)
