Wheaton, Ill. (1/12) – The Thunder wrestling team split a pair of dual matches on Friday night at King Arena. The evening started with a 27-16 Tri-State victory against Wheaton and the night concluded with a dramatic come-from-behind 24-15 victory for Wheaton against Millikin. Tri-State defeated Millikin 24-23 in the evening's other match.
Chase Campbell and Toby Boltz each won two matches for Wheaton on the night. In the final match of the evening Campbell wrestled against Millikin's Khris Dunard with Wheaton holding a narrow 18-15 team lead. Campbell won via a fall 6:09 into the match to secure the 24-15 victory for the hosts.
Millikin victories in the first two matches gave the Big Blue a 9-0 team lead, however Wheaton rallied behind decisions for Dave Gregory (141-pounds) and Rob Jacobson (149-pounds) and then a forfeit for Eugene Savenok to take a 12-9 lead. Decisions for Justin Tomal and Toby Boltz extended the Wheaton lead to 18-12 and allowed for Campbell to secure the victory in the finale.
