Wheaton, Ill.(4/21) – Millikin two games from the Thunder softball team on Saturday in a CCIW doubleheader at Ruth Leedy Field. The Big Blue won each game by a score of 2-0. Millikin is now 12-15 overall and 3-7 CCIW in the CCIW. The Thunder is 12-15 overall and 3-7 on the season. Wheaton will host Benedictine on Monday in non-conference doubleheader at 3 PM on Leedy Field.
In the first game Millikin scored two runs, on three hits, with one error and Wheaton scored no runs, on three hits, with three errors. The game was a scoreless tie through five innings. Millikin broke the tie with two runs in the top of the sixth inning to secure the 2-0 victory.
Trinity Pierce, Amanda Grant and Alissa Sharp each hit a single to account for Wheaton's three hits. Junior starting pitcher Beth Miller (7-6) took the loss in seven innings of work. Miller allowed two runs, with one earned run, on three hits, with six strikeouts and no walks.
In the 2-0 Millikin victory in the nightcap, the Big Blue scored two runs, on three hits, with one error and Wheaton had no runs, on five hits, with one error. The two teams again battled through five scoreless innings, with Millikin breaking the 0-0 tie with two runs in the sixth inning.
Miller collected two hits, while Lauren Hein, Kay Oliver and Pierce each added hits to account for Wheaton's five hits in the loss. Starting pitcher Kim Hegna (6-5) took the loss in 5-2/3 inning of work. Hegna allowed two runs, with three hits, four strikeouts and one walk. Miller pitched 1/3 of an inning of relief, allowing no hits or runs.
