Aurora, Ill. (9/9) – The Thunder volleyball team posted a flawless 4-0 record this weekend at the two-day “Jim Coleman Memorial Tournament”, hosted by Aurora University. Wheaton and Millikin each finished with 4-0 records for the tournament, however Millikin was declared the tournament champion as result of its games won-lost differential. In fact, Wheaton and Millikin will get the chance to face each other on Tuesday night when the Thunder travels to Decatur to open CCIW play. Thunder sophomores Mallory Sullivan and Annie Himmelhaver were each named to the All-Tournament Team for this weekend's event.
Wheaton opened Saturday's play with a 3-1 (24-30, 30-19, 30-23, 30-23) victory against St. Norbert. Sullivan led the Thunder in the victory with 19 kills, 30 digs and four total blocks. Kelli Miller collected 13 kills and Calla Young had 11 kills. Himmelhaver recorded 50 assists and junior Leah Whiteley tallied 25 digs.
Wheaton's flawless weekend was capped off by a 3-0 (30-18, 30-19, 30-21) win against Marian (Wis.). Sullivan blasted 10 kills with 26 digs. Miller recorded nine kills with four total blocks. Himmelhaver made 34 assists in the match.
In the opening match on Friday Wheaton defeated Aurora 3-2 (30-25, 27-30, 30-25, 29-31, 15-9). Sullivan had an impressive match with 21 kills, 34 digs and four service aces. Sophomore Lisa Jutsum made 20 kills and Miller added 14 kills with three total blocks. Himmelhaer had 71 assists, freshman Elizabeth Fox made six total blocks and Whiteley collected 23 digs.
The Thunder followed that victory with a convincing 3-0 (30-24, 30-13, 30-23) win against Ripon. Sullivan recorded a team-high 14 kills and Miller added nine kills with two solo blocks. Fox hit eight kills with three total blocks and Himmelhaver added 31 assists.
