#25th-Ranked Thunder women's soccer team defeats Wisconsin-Oshkosh 1-0

Wheaton, Ill. (9/13) – The Wheaton Thunder women's soccer team earned a 1-0 victory  at home on Wednesday afternoon against Wisconsin-Oshkosh. Wheaton, ranked 25th in this week's Division III Coaches Poll, is 3-1-0 on the season. The Titans fall to 2-2-1. Wheaton will return to action on Saturday at 5 PM when it travels to Loras College. That match will be broadcast on WETN at 88.1 FM in the Wheaton area and on the internet at and will be followed at 7 PM by the Wheaton men's soccer team at Loras.

Oshkosh had its best scoring opportunity of today's match 2:30 into the contest when the Titans' Amanda Matzke attempted a penalty kick that Thunder goalkeeper Kristin Eggert  spectacularly blocked with her leg to keep the score tied at 0-0. A few minutes later junior Sarah Richardson  tapped the ball into the back of the net from in front of the goal thanks to a brilliant double-assist from senior Laura Koontz and freshman Taryne Lee. The goal was the team-high and CCIW-best sixth of the season for Richardson.

The Thunder defense played well for the remainder of the match in front of Eggert as she made one save in 90 minutes of action to record the shutout. It was the third shutout of the season for Wheaton. Wheaton out-shot UW-Oshkosh 29-4, with a 9-0 advantage in corner kicks. Titan goalkeeper Katie Bera made 14 saves and allowed one goal in 90 minutes of work.
