Wheaton, Ill. (10/9) – The Thunder women's soccer team earned its fifth consecutive victory in Monday night with a 9-0 win (against North Central at East McCully Field. Wheaton improves to 11-2-0 overall and 4-1-0 in conference play. Wheaton will head east for two game road trip this weekend. The 17th-ranked Thunder will be at fourth-ranked College of New Jersey on Saturday and will compete at Eastern University (Pa.) next Monday afternoon.
The Thunder scoring in tonight's match started with a North Central own goal 25:40 into the match. Wheaton freshman Taryne Lee netted her ninth goal of the year off of a loose ball in front of the net in the 32nd minute. Less than one minute after Lee's goal, Libby Passiales scored off of a pass from senior All-American Laura Koontz to give the Thunder a 3-0 lead that the hosts would hold until halftime.
Erin Hodina scored Wheaton 's first goal of the second half, as she booted her sixth goal of the season in the 54 th minute. Lee scored a short time later off of a double-assist from Koontz and Hodina to increase the Thunder lead to 5-0. Freshman Maria Della Torre scored her fifth goal of the year in the 65 th minute and Alyson Webster booted her first goal of the season in the 75 th minute as the hosts' lead increased to 7-0. Senior Keren Jezequel added two goals in the final 15 minutes of the match to account for the 9-0 final score.
Wheaton out-shot the Cardinals 28-5, with an 8-0 edge in corner kicks. Wheaton goalkeeper Kristin Eggert played 70 minutes in the net with one save and Sarah Anderson played 20 minutes as the Thunder netminder with one save.
