Thunder men's soccer team falls 2-1 in overtime at Loras

Dubuque, Iowa – The Thunder men's soccer team lost a heartbreaker 2-1 in overtime on Saturday night at Loras College. Wheaton falls to 4-3 on the season, while the Duhawks improve to 4-2 overall. The Thunder will return to action on September 20 at Aurora University.

Thunder sophomore Joel DeLass gave Wheaton a 1-0 lead when he scored his team-best fourth goal of the season 24:03 into the match. Loras' Nick Rizzo tied the contest at 1-1 just before halftime when he scored off of a rebound at the 44:40 mark. Neither team scored in the second half to send the match into overtime. Loras' Kevin Burberry won the match for the hosts as he slipped past the Thunder defense and headed the ball into the net just 2:30 into overtime off of a John Macchione cross.

Wheaton out-shot the Duhawks 17-16 and held an 8-5 advantage in corner kicks. Wheaton goalkeeper Ryan Souders made five saves and allowed two goals in his 92:30 of action in the net. Loras netminder Kevin Smerko made two saves and allowed one Thunder goal.
