Wheaton, Ill. (9/28) – The Wheaton women's soccer team was a 3-0 victor against CCIW foe Elmhurst on Thursday night at East McCully Field. Wheaton entered tonight's match ranked 20th in the most recent NSCAA Division III Coaches Poll. The Thunder improves to 8-2 overall and 2-1 in conference play. Elmhurst 's record falls to 2-6 on the season, with a 0-1 mark in conference action. Wheaton will resume conference play on October 4 at North Park.
Wheaton and the Bluejays battled through a scoreless tie for most of the first half, until Libby Passiales (LEFT) netted her second goal of the season off of a Taryne Lee assist 42:10 into the match. The Thunder lead increased to 2-0 shortly after halftime when freshman Maria Della Torre scored off of a well-placed pass from senior co-captain Laura Koontz 47:42 into the contest. Koontz earned her second assist of the night when she found senior Keren Jezequel for her fifth goal of the season to give Wheaton a 3-0 lead at the 64:04 mark of the match.
Wheaton out-shot Elmhurst 34-1, with a 17-0 edge in shots on goal. The Thunder held a 16-3 advantage in corner kicks. Elmhurst goalkeeper Jessica Eberle played all 90 minutes in net, with 13 saves as she allowed three goals. Wheaton netminder Kristin Eggert played 69 minutes in goal and sophomore Justine Morey saw 21 minutes of action in the net.
