Greencastle, Ind. (9/19) – The Thunder women's soccer team picked up its fourth consecutive victory with an impressive 3-0 win at DePauw University on Tuesday afternoon. The Tigers entered today's match ranked eighth in the most recent National Soccer Coaches Association of American (NSCAA) Division III coaches poll and Wheaton was ranked 21st . Wheaton improves to 5-1 on the season, while DePauw is also 5-1. The Thunder will begin conference play on Tuesday afternoon in a 4 PM match at Millikin University.
Freshman Maria Della Torre gave Wheaton a 1-0 lead in the 18 th minute when she took a Taryne Lee assist and scored her third goal of the season. The Thunder lead remained 1-0 for the rest of the first half.
Shortly after the conclusion of halftime Wheaton 's lead increased to 2-0 when sophomore Erin Hodina netted her first goal of the season in the 49 th minute. Junior Sarah Richardson scored her team and CCIW-best eighth goal of the season in the 60 th minute to give Wheaton a 3-0 lead that would become the final score.
Wheaton out-shot the Tigers 14-8 and held a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks. Junior goalkeeper Kristin Eggert made three saves in 71 minutes of action. Sophomore Justine Morey played 19 minutes in net with three saves to her credit. DePauw netminder Brooke Shipley made four saves and allowed three goals in 90 minutes of action.
