#20-Ranked Thunder earns an impressive 4-1 win against University of Chicago

Wheaton, Ill. (9/26) – The Thunder women's soccer team, ranked 20th in this week's Division III Coaches Poll, was an impressive 4-1 victor at home against the University of Chicago on Tuesday night. With the win Wheaton improves to 7-2-0 on the season and Chicago takes its first loss with a 6-1-1 overall record. Wheaton will host Elmhurst in CCIW action on Thursday night at 7 PM in a match that will be broadcast on WETN radio at 88.1 FM in the Wheaton area and on the internet at www.wetn.org.

The Maroons took an early 1-0 lead as Olivia Ndyabagye raced to the goal and put the ball into the back of the net off of a Christine Farmer assist just 1:33 into the match. Thunder junior Kira Davis scored her first goal of the season at the 8:09 mark as she put the ball past Chicago goalkeeper Polly Cline. Wheaton took a 2-1 lead 37:36 into the match on the first collegiate goal by Libby Passiales. Passiales took a Laura Koontz cross and put the ball into the bottom right corner of the net to give the hosts the lead. The Wheaton lead remained 2-1 for the rest of the first half and for much of the second half.

Senior Keren Jezequel (RIGHT) netted her fourth goal of the year 83:20 into the contest off of a double-assist from freshmen Maria Della Torre and Taryne Lee as the Thunder lead increased to 3-1. In the final minute of the match Lee recorded her fourth goal of the season as she took a Kari Klynstra assist 89:33 into the match.

Wheaton out-shot the Maroons 19-4 on the night and held a 4-3 edge in corner kicks. Wheaton goalkeeper Kristin Eggert played all 90 minutes in goal as she allowed one goal and made one save on the night. Eggert's save was a spectacular stop mid-way through the second half that allowed the Thunder to cling to a narrow 2-1 advantage. Cline played 73 minutes in net for the Maroons with three saves and allowing two goals. Amanda Sutter allowed two goals and made two saves.
