Hodina hat trick helps women's soccer defeat Aurora 5-0

Wheaton, Ill. (10/6) – The Wheaton Thunder women's soccer team defeated Aurora University 5-0  on Friday afternoon at Wheaton's East McCully Field. Wheaton, ranked 17th in this week's Division III Coaches Poll, is now 10-2-0 on the season. The Thunder will return to action on Monday night when North Central College visits East McCully Field at 7 PM. Aurora's record falls to 8-3-2 on the season.

Freshman Taryne Lee scored from in front of the net off of a Maria Della Torre assist 2:29 into the match to give the hosts a 1-0 lead. The goal was Lee's eighth of the season and all eight have come over Wheaton's last six matches. Sophomore Erin Hodina extended the lead to 2-0 when she scored off of a crossing pass by Lee 16:05 into the match. Hodina booted a goal from about 18-yards out at the 25:13 mark of the match to increase the lead to 3-0. Hodina completed the hat trick just 26-seconds later; when she took a Lee assist 25:39 into the match to record her third goal of the match and fifth goal of the season. Senior Keren Jezequel recorded Wheaton's only second-half goal came 64:19 into the match thanks to a Sarah Richardson assist.

Wheaton out-shot the Spartans 27-3, with a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks. Thunder goalkeeper Kristin Eggert played the first half in the net with 45:00 minutes of action. Justine Morey made two saves in 38 minutes as netminder and Allison Ippel saw seven minutes of work. Aurora goalkeeper Jenny Jarvis played all 90 minutes for the Spartans, with eight saves and she allowed five goals.
