Wheaton, Ill. (11/18) – The Thunder women's basketball team, ranked fifth by D3Hoops.com, lost to Wilmington College 68-59 on Saturday afternoon in the Championship Game of the Lee Pfund Classic. Wisconsin-Whitewater defeated St. Mary's (Ind.) 70-67 in the tournament's Consolation Game. Wheaton (1-1) will host Olivet Nazarene University on Tuesday evening at 7:30 PM.
Katie Streck, an all-tournament selection, led the Quakers over the Thunder with 25 points and seven rebounds. Tournament MVP Kelly Peters scored 20 points, with eight rebounds. Sophomore guard Kathleen Fidelia led Wheaton with 17 points and four steals. All-American Jill Trenz earned All-Tournament honors with 15 points, eight rebounds and six blocked shots. Elizabeth Fox and Claire Glass each contributed eight points for the hosts.
Wilmington shot 39.3% (22-56) from the field, with 27.8% (5-18) from three-point range and 86.4% (19-22) at the free throw line. Wheaton recorded a 30.4% (21-69) field goal percentage, with 21.4% (3-14) from three-point range and 73.7% (14-19) at the free throw line.
Wisconsin-Whitewater was a 70-67 victor against St. Mary's in the consolation game as all-tournament honoree Lindsey Buechner led the Warhawks with 13 points. Alison Kessler, an all-tournament selection, led St. Mary's with 22 points, four assists and three steals.
