The Thunder womens basketball team improves to 2-0 in CCIW play with a 60-46 win at Augustana

Rock Island, Ill. – The Thunder women's basketball team jumped out to a 19-3 lead in the first 10 minutes of play en route to a 60-46 victory at Augustana on Tuesday night. Wheaton never trailed and the score was never tied. The largest Thunder of the game was a 20-point advantage at 53-33 with 8:10 left in regulation.

Guard Kathleen Fidelia led the Thunder with a game-high 15 points. The sophomore also distributed a game-high five assists, she tied for the best rebounding effort in the game with seven boards and tied for the team lead in steals with four. Junior center Jill Trenz scored 14 points on 6-for-10 shooting from the field, with seven rebounds. Senior co-captains Elizabeth Fox and Brittany Cooper, along with freshman guard Sarah Jones each scored eight points. Fox tied Fidelia with a team-high four steals and she added four assists.

Augustana was led by Maegan Skahill's 11 points, with six rebounds. Sarah Miers came off of the Vikings' bench to score eight points.

Wheaton shot 44.2% (23-52) from the field, with 40% (4-10) from three-point range and 76.9% (10-13) at the free throw line. Augustana posted a 30.9% (17-55) field goal percentage, with no three-point field goals and a 70.6% (12-17) effort at the charity stripe. Wheaton out-rebounded the hosts 38-33, with Augustana holding a 7-5 edge on the offensive glass.

Wheaton improves to 7-5 overall with the victory and is now 2-0 in CCIW play. Augustana is now 3-10 overall and 1-2 in league play. The Thunder will host North Park on Saturday afternoon at 2 PM. Saturday's game will be broadcast on WETN-TV, channel 72 on Wheaton-area cable outlets and on WETN-radio in the Wheaton area at 88.1 FM. The game will also be broadcast on the internet at www.wetn.org.
