Wheaton, Ill. – Wheaton College sophomore Andrew Hershey has been named the CCIW Football “Player of the Week” on offense. Hershey earned his recognition for his efforts in Wheaton's 73-26 victory at North Park last Saturday afternoon. Wheaton is now 6-1 on the season and 3-1 in CCIW play.
Hershey entered the contest at North Park with 51 rushing yards on 14 carries in his career and for this season he had carried the ball 11 times for 41 yards. However, he made the most of his first collegiate start as he ran for 115 yards on 22 carries, averaging 5.2 yards per rush against the Vikings. He had an 18-yard reception in the game.
Hershey reached the end zone four times on Saturday at the Vikings' Holmgren Field. In the first half he had touchdown runs of six yards, two yards and one yard. His final touchdown was a 26-yard scamper early in the third quarter.
