Pasadena, Calif. - The Thunder men's basketball team earned a 78-52 win against Dickinson College on Monday afternoon at the Caltech Holiday Classic. With the win, Wheaton improves to 9-1 overall. The Thunder will close out its three-game trip to California on Wednesday against Rivier College at 4 PM (CST) in the Caltech Holiday Classic. Wednesday's game will be broadcast on WETN radio at 88.1 FM in the Wheaton area and on the internet at www.wetn.org.
Wheaton jumped out to a 12-0 lead in today's game and never looked back. The Thunder led 42-23 at halftime.
All-American guard Kent Raymond led the Thunder with 22 points and four rebounds. In today's win Raymond moved into 30th-place on Wheaton's career scoring list. He now has 1,149 points in 2-1/2 seasons with the Thunder. Sophomore Ben Panner (PICTURED RIGHT) scored 19 points, with five rebounds and two steals. Junior center Andy Wiele scored 12 points, with nine rebounds and three assists. Senior co-captain Phill Denham added nine points, with three rebounds.
Tom Leszczynski scored 16 points, with nine rebounds. Kizmahr Grell added 10 points and Cory Kenny scored nine points.
Wheaton shot 53.8% (28-52) from the field, with 38.5% (5-13) from three-point range and 77.3% (17-22) at the free throw line. The Red Devils posted a 34% (16-47) field goal percentage, with 7.7% (1-13) from behind the three-point arc and 73.1% (19-26) at the charity stripe. Wheaton out-rebounded Dickinson 35-26, with 14-12 edge on the offensive glass.
