Women's soccer defeats Carthage 3-0 to win the CCIW Tournament

Wheaton, Ill.
– The Thunder women's soccer team remained undefeated with a 3-0 victory against Carthage (15-4-1) on Saturday night in the CCIW Tournament Championship Match. Wheaton's (22-0-0) victory gives the team the CCIW's automatic bid to the upcoming NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Tournament, as the Thunder looks to defend its 2006 Division III Championship. The tournament bracket will be released by the NCAA by 8 AM (CST) on Monday at http://www.ncaasports.com and information will be available on the Wheaton Athletics Website as soon as possible on Monday morning.

The two teams battled through a scoreless first half, despite Wheaton holding a 20-1 advantage in shots before halftime. Wheaton broke the tie 67:19 into the match when a well-placed Sarah Richardson assist was headed into the net by sophomore Taryne Lee. The Thunder lead increased to 2-0 when Erin Hodina put the ball into the upper left corner of the net off of a Lee cross. The final score of 3-0 was the result of a Lee penalty kick 79:57 into the match.

With two goals and five total points tonight, Lee tied two Wheaton College records. She now has 25 goals on the year, tying Wheaton's single-season goals record, previously set by four-time All-American Rebecca Mouw in 2000. Lee has also tied Mouw's single-season record for total points with 59, also set in 2000

Wheaton out-shot Carthage 45-1, with a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks. Wheaton goalkeeper Kristin Eggert made one save in the Thunder net tonight. Carthage goalkeeper Lindsey Bollman was impressive in the Lady Reds' net with 16 saves and three goals allowed.
