Women's basketball team falls to UW-Stevens Point 54-65

Wheaton, Ill.-The Wheaton Women's basketball team fell to UW-Stevens Point, 65-54 on Saturday afternoon in King Arena. Wheaton is now 3-1 on the season. The Thunder will host Ripon College on Tuesday night at home in a game that will be broadcast on WETN radio at 88.1 FM in the Wheaton area and on the internet at www.wetn.org. UW-Stevens Point remains undefeated with a 5-0 overall record on the year.

The Pointers led the Thunder 26-23 at halftime. Wheaton scored the first four points of the second half to take a 28-26 lead with 19:07 left in regulation. The Pointers countered with a 6-0 run to take a 32-28 advantage, a lead the guests would never relenquish. The Pointers held a 58-54 lead with 3:00 remaining in regulation, when the guests closed out the second half with a 7-0 scoring run to secure the 65-54 win.

Jamie Jones and Kathleen Fidelia each led the Thunder in scoring with 12 points. Fidelia added eight rebounds, with seven assists and five steals. Jones collected 12 points, with six rebounds, including four offensive boards. Freshman Lissie McAlvey continued her strong play with nine points and eight rebounds. Junior Lynnea Kvam scored eight points.

 Haley Houghton led UW-Stevens Point with 20 points on 8-for-11 shooting from the field. Jesirae Heuer scored 15 points, with eight rebounds. Chelsea Kranz scored 10 points and added six rebounds, while Jessi Sporle scored 10 points.

The Thunder shot 32.2% (19-59) from the field, with 37.5% (3-8) from three-point range and 72.2% (13-18) at the free throw line. The Pointers recorded a 44.2% (12-28) field goal percentage, with 13.3% (2-15) from three-point range and 85% (17-20) at the free throw line.
