Dubuque, Iowa – The Wheaton College men's basketball team improved to 3-0 on Tuesday night, with a 69-62 win at Loras College (0-2). Wheaton led the Duhawks 33-27 in the first half and the guests' largest lead was an 18-point advantage at 54-36 with 10:55 left in the game. Loras put together a 24-10 run to cut the Thunder lead to 64-60 with 1:31 left in the game. Wheaton closed out the final 1:30 of the game with a 5-2 run to earn the victory.
All-American guard Kent Raymond led the Thunder with 27 points and seven assists. Raymond also grabbed eight rebounds, including five offensive boards. Junior center Andy Wiele recorded his second consecutive “double-double” with 19 points and 10 rebounds, in 29 minutes of action. Ben Panner added 13 points for the Thunder.
Kyle White led the Duhawks with 17 points on 6-for-8 shooting from the field. Ricky Kolze contributed 15 points, with five rebounds. Loras' Luke Slater scored 12 points and Brian Centella added nine points.
The Thunder shot 45.5% (25-55) from the field, with 22.2% (4-18) from three-point range and 78.9% (15-19) at the free throw line. Loras put together a 39.3% (22-56) field goal percentage, with 17.6% (3-17) from three-point range, with a 75% (15-20) free throw percentage.
Wheaton will resume action next Wednesday when University of Chicago visits King Arena for a 7:30 PM tipoff. Wednesday's game will be broadcast on WETN radio (88.1 FM) in the Wheaton area and on WETN-TV at channel 72 on Wheaton-area cable outlets.
