Top-ranked women's soccer shuts out North Central, 8-0

Naperville, Ill. – The Thunder women's soccer team won its 31st consecutive match with an 8-0 victory at North Central on Thursday night. Head coach Pete Felske's team has out-scored opponents 38-1 over its last eight matches. The squad has not allowed a goal over its last 301:04 of action.

Wheaton has won its last 31 consecutive matches and will continue conference play at 7 PM on Saturday night at Illinois Wesleyan. The top-ranked Thunder improves to 12-0-0 on the season, with a 5-0-0 record in league play. North Central is now 4-5-1 overall and 0-2-0 in CCIW play.

Wheaton led the Cardinals 5-0 at halftime of tonight's contest. Senior Sarah Richardson scored her team-high 14th goal of the season 18:45 into the match to give the guests a 1-0 lead. Fellow senior Libby Passiales put the ball in the back of the net 26:59 into the for a 2-0 Thunder lead. Senior defender Kira Davis scored 31:34 into the match; followed by a Brittany Bergh goal 35:20 into the contest off of a Taryne Lee assist. Lee's 13th goal of the season came off of a Bethany Barton assist to give the Thunder a 5-0 lead 39:40 into the match.

Shortly after halftime, freshman Elizabeth Fazio scored off of an assist by Lee 49:20 into the match to give Wheaton a 6-0 lead. Junior Erin Hodina scored 73:04 into the match and Passiales accounted for the 8-0 victory with a goal off of an Alyson Webster assist 87:13 into the match.

Wheaton out-shot the Cardinals 28-3, with a 5-2 edge in corner kicks. Thunder netminder Kristin Eggert played the first 45 minutes in net, with one save. Justine Morey plaed 28 minutes, Allison Ippel added 6:25 in the net and Ingrid Erickson played 10:35 for the Thunder. North Central goalkeeper Elise Manzie played the entire match, with 12 saves and eight goals allowed.
