Men's soccer falls 5-2 at Elizabethtown

Elizabethtown, Pa. – The Thunder men's soccer team dropped a 5-2 decision at Elizabethtown College on Monday night. Wheaton is now 10-4-1 on the season and Elizabethtown is 13-4-0 on the year. The Thunder returns home on Wednesday to face CCIW leader Carthage in a key conference match at 7 PM at Joe Bean Stadium.

The Blue Jays took a 1-0 lead 4:31 into the match when Brian Raveling headed the ball into the net. Wheaton countered less than two minutes later when sophomore Jason VanderVeen (PICTURED) scored 6:22 into the match, off of a Cory Smith assist. The score remained tied 1-1 for the remainder of the first half.

Elizabethtown regained the lead within the first two minutes of the second half when George Severini gave the hosts a 2-1 lead with a goal into the far post at the 46:47 mark of the match. Elizabethtown scored three goals in span of less than six minutes to increase its lead to 5-1. The Blue Jays' three quick goals came from Matt Diller, Mike Helsel and Raveling. VanderVeen scored his second goal of the night 84:36 into the match off of a double-assist from Dolph Westlund and Joel DeLass.

Elizabethtown out-shot the Thunder 12-10. The Blue Jays had five corner kicks, while the Thunder had four.
