Chicago, Ill. – The Thunder women's soccer team used a goal by freshman Brittany Bergh in the second overtime to earn a 3-2 victory at University of Chicago on Saturday afternoon. The top-ranked Thunder improves to 17-0-0 on the season and will travel to 10th-ranked Washington University on Monday for a 5 PM match against the Bears. Chicago is now 8-4-3 on the season.
Senior Libby Passiales gave Wheaton a 1-0 lead when she heads the ball into the net off of a Sarah Richardson assist 22:33 into the match. The Thunder lead remained 1-0 for the rest of the first half. Bergh increased the Wheaton lead to 2-0, 53:48 into the match off of a Passiales assist. Chicago's Melissa Plesac scored 79:19 into the match off of an Olivia Ndyabagye assist. Chicago's Katie Manuelli scored with five-seconds remaining in regulation to tie the match at 2-2 and sent the contest into overtime. Bergh scored her second goal of the match, 101:51 into the contest to give the Thunder the win in the second overtime. Bergh's break-away goal was assisted by sophomore Taryne Lee.
Wheaton out-shot the Maroons 14-12 and Chicago held a 6-4 edge in corner kicks. Wheaton goalkeeper Kristin Eggert made five saves and allowed to goals, playing the entire match in the net. Chicago netminder Amanda Sutter made five saves and allowed three goals.
