Men's soccer wins its seventh-straight with a 4-0 victory against Chicago

Strider Elass scored one goal and had two assists against University of Chicago

Wheaton, Ill. – The Thunder men's soccer team recorded its seventh consecutive victory on Wednesday night, with a 4-0 win at home against University of Chicago. Wheaton is now 10-2-1 on the season and Chicago falls to 6-7-1 overall.

Senior Strider Elass gave the Thunder a 1-0 lead when he scored on a penalty kick 22:48 into the match. The goal was Elass' team-best ninth of the year. Wheaton's lead remained 1-0 at halftime. Matt Swartz out-maneuvered the Chicago defense to score a goal and increase the Thunder lead to 2-0, with 63:04 left in the match. Swartz's second goal of the night occurred 80:17 into the match off of an Elass assist. Elass again slipped through the Chicago defense to distribute an assist on a Joel DeLass goal at the 88:39 mark of the match, for the final score of 4-0.

Wheaton out-shot the Maroons 22-7, with a 5-2 edge in corner kicks. Thunder goalkeeper Micah Lamb made four saves in recording his fourth shutout of the season. Chicago netminder Micah Gruber made eight saves and allowed four goals in the Maroons' net.

The Thunder will travel to Pennsylvania this weekend for the team's next two matches. Wheaton will be at Messiah College, the defending Division III Champions, on Saturday night at 6 PM (EST) in a re-match of last year's Division III Championship Match. On Monday the Thunder will face Elizabethtown College at 7 PM (EST).
