Wheaton, Ill. - The Thunder men's soccer team stretched its winning streak to five matches with a 3-0 win against Wisconsin-Platteville on Wednesday night at Joe Bean Stadium. Wheaton is now 8-2-1 on the season and the Pioneers fall to 7-4-1. The Thunder will travel to Wisconsin-Oshkosh on Saturday night for a 7 PM match against the Titans.
Senior Mack Rogers gave the Thunder a 1-0 lead just 1:28 into tonight's contest, when he headed the ball into the net off of a Joel DeLass assist. The Wheaton advantage remained 1-0 for rest of the first half.
Matt Swartz scored his fourth goal of the year 53:20 into the match to increase the hosts' lead to 2-0. DeLass accounted for the final score of 3-0 when he scored 54:27 into the match off of a double-assist from Stephen Mesko and Steve Poppe.
Wheaton out-shot the Pioneers 12-9 and held a 6-1 edge in corner kicks. Thunder goalkeeper Micah Lamb played all 90 minutes in net, making five saves in his third shutout of the year. The Pioneers' netminder, Kris Bosshart made three saves and allowed three goals.
