Wheaton, Ill. (9/29) – The Thunder men's soccer team played to its second consecutive tie with a 1-1 draw in two overtimes at home against Wisconsin-Oshkosh on Friday night. The Thunder and Elmhurst battled to a 0-0 tie at Wheaton's East McCully Field two nights earlier in a match on Wednesday night.
Wheaton took an early 1-0 lead against UW-Oshkosh when junior Strider Elass (LEFT) scored his second goal of the season from in front of the net off of an assist by freshman Ari Hyde at the 4:46 mark of the match. The Thunder held the lead from the remainder of the first half and for the majority of the rest of the contest. The Titans' Andy Domer tied the match at 1-1 when he utilized a well-placed Paul Beach assist 72:06 into the contest.
Each team took three shots in the overtime period, but could not put the ball into the back of the net. Wheaton's best opportunity to break the deadlock came in the second overtime when junior Cory Smith took two shots in front of the Titan's net, including one that grazed off the crossbar in the 106 th minute.
The Titans out-shot Wheaton 23-12, including a 12-2 edge in the second half. Wheaton attempted nine corner kicks in the contest and Wisconsin-Oshkosh had six. Thunder goalkeeper Ryan Souders made a career-high nine saves and allowed one goal in 110 minutes of action. UW-Oshkosh netminder Derek Christiansen played 110 minutes with five saves and one goal.
