Wheaton, Ill. (10/6) – The Thunder men's soccer team earned a 9-1 victory against North Central College on Friday night at East McCully Field. The nine goals scored in tonight's match marked the most by the Wheaton program since a 9-0 victory at North Central on September 19, 2003. Wheaton improves to 6-5-2 on the season and 2-1-1 in conference play.
Wheaton took a 2-0 lead thanks unassisted goals in the first 33 minutes by senior All-American Steve Rigby and junior Justin West. Freshman Ari Hyde (LEFT) booted two goals in the final 10 minutes of the first half to give Wheaton a 4-0 lead that it would hold into the halftime break.
In the 53rd minute freshman Tyler Risma (LEFT) collected his first collegiate goal to increase the hosts' lead to 5-0. Hyde collected a hat trick when he recorded his third goal of the night just 31-seconds after Risma's goal. Risma scored a goal in the 59th minute and another in the 64th minute to add to his accomplishments with a hat trick of his own. North Central reached the scoreboard when Tommy Robertson scored in the 81st minute. Wheaton's Ryan Lucas added to his three assists on the night with his first goal of the season in the 82nd minute.
Wheaton out-shot the Cardinals 28-8 with a 10-3 edge in corner kicks. Thunder senior goalkeeper Ryan Souders played 45 minutes in net with one save. Ben Dons played 32 minutes as netminder with three saves. Freshman Micah Lamb played the 13 minutes, allowing one goal.
