Chicago, Ill. (10/20) – The Thunder men's soccer team lost in a hard-fought 1-0 decision at North Park University on Friday night in two overtimes. With just 4:07 remaining in the second overtime, and the ball bouncing around in front of the Wheaton net, North Park's Isaac Lee scored the game-winner off of a deflection in front of the goal.
North Park out-shot the Thunder 17-11 for the match, with the Vikings holding an 8-1 edge in the overtime periods. North Park held a 7-6 advantage in corner kicks for the match.
North Park goalkeeper Austin Person made five saves in recording the shutout. Wheaton netminder Ryan Souders (LEFT) also made five saves, allowing one goal in 106 minutes of action in the Thunder net. Wheaton freshman Damon Brown made a stellar back save late in the first overtime as he cleared out what would likely have been a North Park goal.
North Park stands atop the CCIW standings with a 5-0-1 league record and an overall mark of 13-1-2. Wheaton is now 8-7-3 on the season with a 3-2-1 league record. The Thunder will conclude conference play at 5 PM on October 25 at Carthage College . Wheaton coach Joe Bean heads into Wednesday's match with 599 victories in his 45-year collegiate coaching career, just one win shy of becoming the first coach in collegiate soccer history with 600 career wins.
