Colorado Springs, Colo. (10/14) – The Thunder volleyball team competed at Colorado College's "Spike It Up Classic" on Friday and Saturday. Wheaton finished third with a 2-2 record for the tournament to improve the squad to 14-11 overall. The Thunder will return to action on October 18 when North Park visits King Arena.
Nebraska Wesleyan University won the tournament with a 4-0 record, Colorado College went 3-0 in second place, Wheaton finished third with its 2-2 record, Wisconsin Lutheran was 1-3 in fourth place and Greensboro College had an 0-4 record with a fifth place finish. Wheaton setter Annie Himmelhaver and Thunder libero Leah Whiteley each were named to the all-tournament team.
In the opening match on Friday morning Nebraska Wesleyan defeated Wheaton 3-1 (30-28, 29-31, 30-25, 30-23). In the second match of the tournament Colorado College defeated the Thunder 3-0 (30-27, 30-17, 31-29). Wheaton had a perfect Saturday with a 2-0 record in the tourament's second day. The Thunder defeated Wisconsin Lutheran College 3-1 (24-30, 31-29, 30-21, 30-17) and followed that with a 3-0 (33-31, 30-24, 30-22) victory against Greensboro College to conclude the tournament.
