Kent Smith is a senior member of the Wheaton cross country and track and field teams. Below is a brief interview with Kent.

Q: What is your major?

A:
Business and Economics

Q: What (if any) plans do you have after graduation?

A:
Nothing as of yet. On the hunt for business jobs in the area or outside of Wheaton, as I have lived here my entire life.

Q: Why did you choose to run at Wheaton?

A:
I started running in high school and every year I loved it more and more. At first in high school, I only wanted to run track but the coaches told me to come out for Cross Country and soon I found out I was more excited about this sport than running Track. I enjoy being active and so coming to Wheaton; I wanted to continue running competitively.

Q: What do you enjoy most about Wheaton?

A:
The guys on the Cross Country team. We have such a great time together, from the crazy fun things we come up with on whim to do around campus to the weekend road trips we take (even to San Antonio, TX for the girls soccer final four game…). The professors are also incredible, both teaching wise and just to talk with.

Q: What is your favorite cross country or track memory so far in your time at Wheaton?

A:
December of Junior year, Nate Hatton says, “Guys, we could drive to the girls soccer final four game in San Antonio this weekend!” Four of us left at 10:30 on Thursday night, I believe, for the game the next afternoon at 5pm 1,200 miles away. Drove clean through the night both ways (I ended up being the night owl taking both shifts) and literally only stopped to fill the gas tank. Kept eyeing the GPS estimated arrival time and called a former Wheaton runner on the drive who now works for US Airways in Phoenix. Long story short, he ended up flying standby to San Antonio, we picked him up, got to the game, painted up, and made it by less than 10 minutes! It was an unbelievable weekend and we still joke about it now and how much we drove all for the game.
