Men's and women's cross country teams compete at 2010 NCAA-III Midwest Regional

Rock Island, Ill. – The Wheaton men's and women's cross country teams competed at the 2010 NCAA Division III Midwest Regional on Saturday afternoon. The Thunder men finished 11th in the 39-team field and Wheaton's women were 13th out of 38 programs. The event was hosted by Augustana College at Rock Island's Saukie Golf Course.

North Central won the 8K men's race with 37 points, Wisconsin-Platteville finished second with 86 points, Wisconsin-Stevens Point scored 114 points in third place, Washington University (Mo.) was fourth with 122 points, Wisconsin-Oshkosh tallied 173 points in fifth place, Wisconsin-Eau Claire finished sixth with 187 points, Wisconsin-Whitewater scored 220 points in seventh place, Augustana was eighth with 227 points, Wisconsin-LaCrosse finished ninth with 230 points, University of Chicago registered 244 points in 10th place, Wheaton scored 278 points to finish 11th, Illinois Wesleyan was 12th with 264 points, Wisconsin-Stout took 13th with 379 points, Wisconsin-River Falls scored 494 points in 14th place and Principia scored 546 points in 15th place.

Thunder sophomore Mark Phillips was the top performer for the Wheaton men's team with a time of 25:03.9 in 39th place in the 275-runner field. Freshman James Waterman was 43rd with a time of 25:07.4 and junior Jacob Goertz posted a time of 25:26.9 to finish 62nd. Sophomore Parker Thompson was 65th with a time of 25:30.4 and senior Clayton Loy posted a time of 25:32.0 in 69th place.

Wisconsin-Eau Claire scored 85 points in the 6K women's race to win the event, Washington (Mo.) finished second with 93 points, Wisconsin-Stevens Point took third with 98 point, Wisconsin-Oshkosh scored 122 points in fourth place, University of Chicago was fifth with 133 points, North Central tallied 182 points in sixth place, Wisconsin-LaCrosse was seventh with 213 points, Wisconsin-Platteville scored 226 points in eighth place, Illinois Wesleyan took ninth with 266 points, St. Norbert registered 301 points in 10th place, Wisconsin-Whitewater took 11th with 372 points, Monmouth College scored 385 points in 12th place, the Wheaton women finished 13th with 421 points, Carroll scored 447 points in 14th place and Wisconsin-Stout finished 15th with 483 points.

Senior Jennifer Lewis was the top performer for the Thunder with a time of 22:56.2 to finish 56th in a field of 263 women. Senior Sara Greeley posted a time of 23:09.7 in 62nd place and senior Parker Gary posted a time of 23:37.9 to finish 90th. Sophomore Annie Shults took 106th place with a time of 23:50.3 and teammate Jennifer Anderson finished just behind her in 107th place with an effort of 23:50.4.
