LORAS COLLEGE DUHAWKSThe Loras Men's Soccer team enters the Sectional Round with a 17-2-2 overall record after advancing past Westminster College and Gustavus Adolphus College by identical 2-0 margins. The return to the "Sweet 16" is the eighth in program history. In 2012 and 2013, the Duhawks advanced to the Final Four before falling 1-0 to Messiah in 2012 and 3-2 to Rutgers-Camden in overtime.
In the regular season, the Duhawks were crowned Iowa Conference Regular Season Champions after running the table and finishing 7-0. In the postseason awards, seven members of Loras' roster earned All-Iowa Conference honors.
Leading Loras in almost every statistical category is senior Mike Pizzello. He was named Iowa Conference Defensive Player of the Year and enters Friday's game with 14 goals and one assist. In the Second Round last week, Pizzello tallied the game-winner against the Gusties with a header in the 44th minute.
In goal, the Duhawks have leaned on sophomore all-conference goalkeeper Adam Roloff who enters the weekend with a 0.87 goals against average and a 11-1-1 record.
For Loras Head Coach Dan Rothert, 2014 marks the 10th consecutive NCAA Tournament Appearance. In those 10 years, Loras has advanced to the Final Four on four occasions (2007, 2008, 2012, 2013).
In last year's NCAA Sectional Final, Loras defeated Trinity University 2-1 on a game-winning goal from Pizzello in the 58th minute.

TRINITY UNIVERSITY (TEXAS) TIGERS Trinity’s second-ranked men’s soccer team comes into the Wheaton Sectional with a 23-1-0 overall record and a 20-game winning streak. The Tigers have reached the third round of the NCAA Playoffs for the third consecutive season, after winning the program’s 17th overall Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship. Trinity has won 12 of the last 13 conference titles, including the last three consecutive.
The Trinity program has made its 18th appearance in the NCAA Playoffs, including its 13th straight. The Tigers have scored 82 goals this season, allowing just 14 goals, and recording 14 shutouts.
Trinity is led by SCAC Offensive Player of the Year Johnny Lawson, who has scored 17 goals and eight assists for a team-best 42 points. Victor Araujo is the team’s assists leader, pairing nine assists with nine goals, and is second among Tiger players with 27 points. Zacharias Edholm is tied with Araujo with nine goals scored this season. Goalkeeper Matt Cardone has posted a GAA of 0.54 in more than 1,800 minutes in net, recording 67 saves and eight shutouts.
In previous seasons, Trinity has faced all three teams at this year’s sectional at least once. The Tigers defeated Wartburg 2-1 (2 OT) in the third round last season, while Trinity lost 2-1 at Loras in last year’s quarterfinals. Trinity and Wheaton met in 1998 and 2000, with the Tigers edging the Thunder 2-1 in each matchup.

WARTBURG COLLEGE KNIGHTS Wartburg won the Iowa Conference Tournament Championship as senior Brady Anderson made the title-clinching penalty kick and earned the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
This marks the ninth NCAA tournament appearance and is the second consecutive appearance for the Orange and Black. Wartbug advanced to the Sweet Sixteen last year and fell 2-1 in double overtime to Trinity (Texas). Wartburg is now 11-6-3 all-time in the NCAA tourney.
Senior Dan Nadeau earned the Iowa Conference MVP and head coach Kirk Artist was named the conference’s Coach of the Year for the second consecutive season.
Nadeau leads the team with 12 goals and 10 assists for 34 points. Junior Zubeen Azari is the second-leading scorer with nine goals and sophomore Paris Martins follows with seven goals.
Wartburg hosted First and Second Round matches last weekend under snowy conditions in Waverly, Iowa. The Knights opened with a 1-1 tie against MSOE and advanced to the Second Round with a 5-4 advantage in penalty kicks. Wartburg defeated University of Chicago 2-0 in the Second Round on Sunday. Connor Johnson and Paris Martins each scored a goal in the win that advanced the Knights to this weekend’s Sectional.

WHEATON THUNDERWheaton won the CCIW Championship and the conference’s tournament to pick up the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. Wheaton is 19-3-0 on the year, following a 3-0 victory against UW-Whitewater in the NCAA Tournament’s Second Round last Saturday. Stephen Golz scored twice and Adam Blackman added a goal for the Thunder.
This year’s CCIW Championship is the 19th all-time for the Thunder. Wheaton has made 34 NCAA Tournament appearances since 1974 and is second in the tournament’s history for most appearances.
Junior Marshall Hollingsworth, the 2014 CCIW Player of the Year, has scored nine goals with seven assists this season. Three-time All-CCIW honoree Noah Anthony is tied for the team lead with eight assists as well as adding a career-high six goals. Jordan Golz has scored seven goals and has seven assists. Stephen Golz has netted a team-best 15 goals and added three assists for the Thunder.
Elliot Borge and Adam Blackman Borge each earned All-CCIW accolades in the midfield. Borge has four goals to go with five assists while Blackman has eight goals and five assists.
Goalkeeper Matt Paprocki has played in every match in net for the Thunder this season. In 22 matches he has allowed just 17 goals, with a 0.79 goals against average. Paprocki has tallied 11 shutouts, including last Saturday’s 3-0 win against UW-Whitewater.
