Drew Golz earns NCAA Fall Postgraduate Scholarship

Wheaton College senior Drew Golz, of the Thunder men's soccer team, has been named as one of 58 recipients of NCAA Postgraduate Scholarships for fall sports. The NCAA has selected 29 males from all three NCAA Divisions and 29 females representing fall sports. Golz is one of 11 men from a NCAA Division III institution to receive a scholarship.

Golz is the 2011 Capital One Academic All-American of the Year for Division III men's soccer, earning a First Team Academic All-American selection for the second straight year. A two-time All-Region selection and three time all-conference pick, Golz scored 29 career goals, with 14 assists in 60 career matches.

Golz is a Chemistry major at Wheaton with a 3.98 cumulative grade point average. He scored a team-high 10 goals with six assists for the Thunder this season, helping the team to a 10-8-2 overall record.

he NCAA awards up to 174 postgraduate scholarships annually, 87 for men and 87 for women. The scholarships are awarded to student-athletes who excel academically and athletically and who are at least in their final year of intercollegiate athletics competition.

The one-time grants of $7,500 each are awarded for fall sports, winter sports and spring sports. Each sports season (fall, winter and spring), there are 29 scholarships available for men and 29 scholarships available for women. The scholarships are one-time, non-renewable grants.

The NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship was created in 1964 to promote and encourage postgraduate education by rewarding the Association's most accomplished student-athletes through their participation in NCAA championship and/or emerging sports. Athletics and academic achievements, as well as campus involvement, community service, volunteer activities and demonstrated leadership, are evaluated.
