Rock Island, Ill. - The Wheaton College wrestling team captured one weight class and took third place as a team at the CCIW Championship on Thursday.
Elmhurst College won its second-straight team title with a score of 101. Augustana College was second (77), Wheaton was third (41) and North Central College fourth (38).
Darren Faber took first at 197 pounds for the Thunder. The junior won his semifinal 13-5 and the championship by medical default.
Tom Foy was second at 125 pounds, losing in the final 12-1 to Elmhurst's Mark Johnson.
Tim Savenok was third at 157 pounds and won the third-place match 6-4.
Kyle Patton was similarly victorious in his third-place match 4-1 at Heavyweight.
Johann Sarna finished third at 184 pounds.
Augustana's Jordan Richardson and Alberto Quiros earned the CCIW's Co-Most Outstanding Wrestlers. Elmhurst coach Steve Marianetti was named the CCIW's Coach of the Year.
The NCAA Great Lakes Regional will be hosted by Augsburg College at 9 AM on Feb. 25.
