LEE PFUND STADIUM
The development of of a permanent home for Wheaton’s varsity baseball team was approved in 2010 on the longtime site of Legion Field in Carol Stream. The new permanent home, Lee Pfund Stadium, opened on April 7, 2012 in a doubleheader against North Park University.

The initial phase of upgrades were completed in the Spring of 2012.
The first phase included installation of lights, state-of-the art A-Turf® artificial turf, new dugouts, fencing and a backstop.

In order to make it a complete facility, stadium seating, press box, storage, washrooms, concessions and locker rooms are still needed.  Fundraising is ongoing for the approximately $1.9M goal to complete Phase Two with a hope for completion in 2013. Donations for the next phase of the project can be made HERE.

Thunder head baseball coach Matt Husted states, “Lee Pfund Stadium is a great facility for our baseball program, but one that needs to be completed. Once completed this facility will be beautiful and a great source of pride for the entire Wheaton community. What has been done in the first phase is terrific. The playing surface and other components that have been finished are first-class and represent what Wheaton is all about.” He adds. “I think it is important to get this project completed so that our student-athletes, fans, parents, alumni and others can have the total experience at a facility that truly represents Wheaton.”

Lee Pfund Stadium is named in honor of longtime Wheaton baseball and basketball coach Lee Pfund. A 1949 Wheaton graduate, Lee Pfund also was a pitcher in the Brooklyn Dodgers organization until a knee injury ended his career. His teammates included baseball legends Pee Wee Reese and Jackie Robinson. A member of Wheaton’s Athletic Hall of Honor, Lee coached baseball from 1948-59 and from 1961-74. In 26 years, Pfund’s baseball teams won 249 games and his 1951 team was the last Wheaton team to win a CCIW Baseball Championship.
