As a NCAA Championship event no free passes (season passes, parents passes, student ID’s or faculty/staff ID) will be accepted. Admission to each day is $6 for adults, students (ages 12 and up) are $3, senior citizens are $3, ages 3-12 are $2 and children two years old and younger will be admitted for free.


RECAP: Wheaton 4, UW-Whitewater 1

Wheaton, Ill. –
The Wheaton College women’s soccer was a 4-1 winner against UW-Whitewater on Friday night in a Sectional Semifinal contest of the NCAA Division III Women’s Soccer Tournament.

Wheaton advances to host the Sectional Final on Saturday night at 5 PM at Joe Bean Stadium. The Thunder will face Washington University-St. Louis. The winner on Saturday will participate in a NCAA Division III Women’s Soccer National Semifinal on December 2 in San Antonio, Texas.

Wheaton freshman #Anna Seabolt# gave the Thunder a 1-0 lead when she netted a goal, just 18:56 into the match. A #Katelyn Kishkunas# cross was headed by senior #Jaime Orewiler# to Seabolt who headed the ball in past Warhawks’ goalkeeper Jordan Myers who came out of the net on Orewiler’s header. Wheaton increased its lead to 2-0 at the 29:04 mark of the match Orewiler settled the ball on a cross and blasted it in from six yards out. Her goal was assisted by #Val Lelle# and #Sarah Guidera#. Wheaton held a 3-0 lead at halftime as Seabolt netted her 12th goal of the year at the 37:19 mark of the match. Wheaton moved the ball down field and a pass from #Keri Shannon# on the right side came to Seabolt who slipped the ball past Myers.

Wheaton increased its lead to 4-0 at the 54:26 mark of the match when Seabolt got behind the Warhawks’ defense and sent a pass from the left side of the 18-yard box to #Ali Kopelman#, who put it into the net from 15 yards out. UW-Whitewater reached the scoreboard at the 56:56 mark of the match when Jessica Allemang put the ball into the net on an assist from Emily Gerber.

The Warhawks out-shot the Thunder 11-10, with a 7-6 edge in corner kicks for UW-Whitewater. Wheaton freshman #Kelsey Graham# started the match for the Thunder, making two saves with no goals allowed in 57 minutes. #Hilary Barreto# made two saves and allowed one goal in working the final 33 minutes of the match for the hosts. Myers allowed four goals and made three saves in the Warhawks’ net.


RECAP: Washington (Mo.) 2, St. Benedict 1

Wheaton, Ill. –
A pair of goals late in the game allowed Washington (Mo.) University to rally past College of St. Benedict 2-1 in Friday night's Sectional Semifinal game of the NCAA Division III Women’s Soccer Tournament.

The Bears (18-4) will next face host Wheaton College (21-1-2) in the Sectional Final on Saturday at 5 PM at Joe Bean Stadium. Saturday's winner will advance to the NCAA Division III Women’s Soccer National Final Four on December 2 in San Antonio, Texas.

After Washington produced several early scoring chances in the opening minute, St. Bendict used its counter attack to score at the 2:40 mark via Heather Beshears. The score stayed 1-0 until the half as Washington kept possession while St. Benedict kept getting chances on counters.

In the 77th minute, the Bears broke through as Lauren Steimle collected a rebound off the goalies hands and scored from within five feet. Washington's offensive pressure yielded the winning goal in the 85th minute. Kate Doyle's corner kick found Lee Ann Felder for a swinging volley shot that found the back of the net.

Washington ended up with a 23-9 shot advantage, with a 6-0 margin in corner kicks. Clara Jacques got the win in goal, making three saves. Megan Favorite took the loss while making 10 saves.

TOURNAMENT PREVIEW

After dropping four of their first five games of the 2011 season, the College of Saint Benedict Blazers (13-6-3 overall, 8-2-2 MIAC) captured their first MIAC title since 2003.  CSB backed up their regular season crown by securing an NCAA bid with wins in the MIAC Playoffs;  beating Macalester 2-0 in a shootout, and downing Concordia-Moorhead 1-0 with five seconds remaining in the first overtime.

Colleen Bouchard
In the NCAA tournament, the Blazers defeated Carroll University in the first round 5-4 in a shootout to advance. In the second round, the Blazers upset ninth-ranked Loras College 2-1 in regulation to move onto the NCAA Sweet Sixteen.

The Blazers are led offensively by sophomore forward Colleen Bouchard (PICTURED RIGHT) and senior forward Heather Beshears, who come into the third round with seven and six goals, respectively. Bouchard was named the Co-MIAC Player of the Year. Others receiving MIAC honors for the Blazers are senior Sami Meyman and sophomore midfielder Kaitlyn Lauer.  Head coach Steve Kimble was also named MIAC Head Coach of the Year.

The No. 12-ranked Washington University in St. Louis women’s soccer team advanced to Sectional play for the eighth time in school history with a pair of 2-0 victories over Thomas More College and the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh last weekend at home.

Felder
Freshman Lillie Toaspern, the 2011 University Athletic Association (UAA) Rookie of the Year, leads the team and the conference with 11 goals and 27 points. Senior Emma Brown (nine goals, eight assists), freshman Anna Zambricki (10 goals, four assists) and sophomore Lauren Steimle (10 goals) all are scoring threats for the Bears, who have found the back of the net 56 times this year.

Senior Lee Ann Felder (PICTURED RIGHT), a First Team All-UAA selection, leads the conference with nine assists and has started 82 games in her career. Junior goalkeeper Clara Jaques and the Bears’ defense have not allowed a goal in 448 minutes played, a span of nearly five games.

Head coach Jim Conlon has guided Washington University to a school-record 17 wins this season, and a 59-20-7 (.727) overall mark in his four seasons with the Bears.

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater is making the most out of its first NCAA III National Tournament appearance. The Warhawks, back-to-back champions of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, are 14-4-3, setting a school record for wins.  

Gerber
The offense is led by senior Emily Gerber and sophomore Christina Tooren. Gerber, two-time MVP of the WIAC, owns school records for season assists (10 in 2011), season points (49 in 2008), career goals (54) and career points (129).  Tooren, who played in just 11 games because of an early-season injury, is second on the team with 11 goals and 25 points.  Gerber and Tooren are also 1-2 on the team with five game-winning goals and four, respectively.

Whitewater’s defense is anchored by First Team All-WIAC selection Kelsey Finn and keeper Jordan Myers. Myers, who has been between the posts for all but 300 minutes this season, has compiled a 1.12 goals against average and posted four shutouts.

Greg Henschel is UW-W’s soccer coordinator, serving as head coach of both the men’s and women’s teams.  Henschel directed both to WIAC titles and NCAA Tournament berths in 2011.  He has compiled a 126-89-13 (.581) record in his 12th season as the women’s head coach.

WHEATON COLLEGE THUNDER

This year’s trip to the postseason is Wheaton’s 15th consecutive appearance in the NCAA Division III Women’s Soccer Tournament, the second-longest active streak in Division III. Wheaton is 38-8-5 (.794) all-time in the postseason, with five Final Four appearances and National Championships in 2004, 2006 and 2007, in addition to a runner-up finish in 2008.

Wheaton earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament, by winning the CCIW Tournament. Wheaton has a 20-1-2 record on the year, with a 6-1 record in CCIW play during the regular season to win the program’s 15th CCIW Championship.

Jaime Orewiler
Senior Jaime Orewiler (PICTURED RIGHT) was a First Team All-CCIW selection for the third-consecutive season and she was recognized as the CCIW “Player of the Year” for the second-straight year. Orewiler leads the Thunder with 12 goals and 14 assists this season. Junior Keri Shannon has 12 goals this season, with 12 assists. Freshman Anna Seabolt has 10 goals on the year.

Defensively, Wheaton has recorded 13 shutouts this season, including two last weekend. The Thunder defense has posted a 0.59 goals against average, only allowing 14 goals in its 23 matches this season.
