The Thunder women's basketball program announces newcomers for the 2017-18 season

Wheaton, Ill. – Wheaton College head women's basketball coach Kent Madsen has announced the addition of five newcomers that have submitted their deposit to attend Wheaton College, with the intent to play for the Thunder women's basketball team beginning with the 2017-18 season.

Wheaton posted a 24-5 record in 2016-17, winning the program's third-consecutive CCIW Championship as head coach Kent Madsen was honored as the CCIW Coach of the Year.

The five newcomers for 2017-18 are:

Heidi Considine (Baraboo, Wisconsin/Portage High School) is a 5'10" three-sport athlete from Portage High School. Considine was a three-year letter winner in basketball and a team captain who earned All-Conference Honorable Mention in the Badger North Conference as a senior. In track, Considine was a four-year standout who was a sectional qualifier the last two years in the 4X400 and the 4X800 relay events. She was part of the relay team that holds the school record in the 4X800. In addition, Considine was named to the All-State Academic Team in basketball and volleyball each year. She graduated in the top 10% of her class, and she held various leadership positions in National Honor Society, Spanish National Honor Society, Youth Alive, Warrior Leadership, Spanish Club, Link Crew, Principal's Council, Marching Band, and FBLA.
 
Hannah Frazier (Batavia, Illinois/Batavia High School) is transferring into Wheaton after one season at St. Louis University, playing in 11 games with the Billikens in 2016-17. Frazier is a 6'2" forward who graduated from Batavia High School as the school's career scoring leader with 2,083 points and as the program's career rebounding leader with 1,045 boards. During her career as a four-year varsity starter, Frazier played on teams that won two regional championships and won two conference crowns; while being the team's two-time Most Valuable Player and captain. As a senior, she averaged 22.4 points and 9.8 rebounds while leading Batavia to its best record in school history at 26-5. Frazier was a two-time IBCA All-State selection, a two-time Chicago Tribune All-State selection, a three-time All-Conference selection, receiving the Conference Player of the Year honor in her senior season, a four-time All-Area selection, the Kane County Chronicle Player of the Year, a two-time Aurora Beacon Player of the Year, a two-time Daily Herald All-Area Captain, and she finished sixth overall in Ms. Basketball Illinois voting. Academically, Frazier was an Illinois State Scholar, an Academic All-State selection and a member of the National Honor Society, the National English Honor Society, the National Spanish Honor Society and the National Science Honor Society while graduating first in her class. In her freshman season at Saint Louis University, Frazier was named to the Dean's List, the Academic All-Atlantic 10, and won an excellence in Mathematics award for first-year students.
 
Sophia Steward (Austin, Texas/Regents School of Austin) is a 5'11" forward who comes to Wheaton as a three-year letterwinner and two-year varsity starter for Regents School of Austin. As a team captain her senior year, Steward's team captured the District Championship and made it to the final four. In her senior season, she garnered First-Team All-District and Second-Team All-State accolades. While starting as a junior, Regents placed second in district, and Steward was named First-Team All-District, Academic All-State and won the Breakthrough award.
 
Hannah Williams (Fishers, Indiana/Heritage Christian High School) is a 5'10" guard from Heritage Christian High School, helping lead the team to three state championships. As a captain for two years and a three-year letterwinner in basketball, Williams' high school team won two 2A state championships, one 3A state championship, and held the crown as the city's four-time city champion. Williams was honored with the Newcomer of the Year award her freshman year, the Most Improved Player award her sophomore year, the Hardest Working award her junior year, and the Highest GPA award her senior year. WHME TV-46 selected Williams as a Student Athlete of the Week, and she earned an All-City Basketball selection in 2016. Williams was also a two-year letterwinner in volleyball, and she was two-time Academic All-State in 2015-2016 and in 2016-2017 for both volleyball and basketball. Additionally, Williams was a member of the National Honors Society and graduated in the top-ten of her class.
 
Bonnie Zeller (New Brighton, Minnesota/St. Anthony Village High School) is a 5'8" guard who joins the Thunder after averaging 13.6 points, 7.4 rebounds, and shooting 77% from the free throw line during her senior season. Zeller earned a First Team All-Conference selection and won her team's Impact Player Award as she helped lead St. Anthony to the Conference Championship as a captain. Other basketball honors include being selected All-Conference Honorable Mention as a junior and being named a 2016 Premier Minnesota Player by Breakdown Sports Best Basketball Players in the state. Zeller played varsity volleyball for three years and ran varsity track and field for two years. In addition, Zeller was the recipient of the Athena Award for athletics and academics, was a member of the National Honor Society, was an Academic All-American, and graduated in the top 10% of her class.
