Katie McDaniels is named as a finalist for the 2016 Jostens Trophy

Wheaton, Ill. - Wheaton College junior Katie McDaniels has been selected as one of 10 female finalists for the 2016 Jostens Trophy. The Jostens Trophy honors the most outstanding Division III basketball players of the year, considering basketball ability, academic prowess and community service. McDaniels is the first member of the Wheaton women's basketball program to be a finalist for the Jostens Trophy.

McDaniels is an Applied Health Science major at Wheaton and holds a cumulative GPA of 3.82. She is a three-time All-CCIW honoree for the Thunder and recently was honored as the 2016 CCIW "Most Outstanding Player." She helped lead the program to its second-consecutive CCIW Championship and CCIW Tournament Championship in 2015-16. The Thunder will compete in the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Tournament on Friday at 7:30 p.m. with a first-round matchup at UW-River Falls.

McDaniels leads Wheaton with an average of 17.0 points per game and she also has a team-high 5.2 assists per game. She has shot 44.3% (136-of-314) from the field this season and has an effort of 77.0% (154-of-200) at the free throw line. She is currently third in Division III in made free throws (154); 16th in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.31); 27th in assists per game (5.2 APG) and 95th in scoring (17.0 PPG).

Her 154 made free throws this season established a new Wheaton single-season record. McDaniels' 442 points this season ranks as the eighth-highest single-season point total in school history and her 134 assists this year is sixth in the program's single-season record books.

McDaniels' 1,177 career points is ninth on Wheaton's all-time scoring list. She is second in program history with 425 career made free throws and she is fifth in Wheaton's record books with 354 career assists.
