The Thunder men's basketball program announces eight newcomers for the 2015-16 season

15992Wheaton, Ill. - Wheaton College head men's basketball coach Mike Schauer has announced his team's recruiting class for the 2015-16 season. The eight students, hailing from eight different states, have submitted a deposit to attend Wheaton College in the Fall, with plans of playing for the Thunder men's basketball team.

Wheaton head coach Mike Schauer (PICTURED LEFT) states of the newcomers to his program, "I really like this group. Obviously time will tell but I think each of these young men can be a contributor on very good teams at the CCIW level at some point during their respective careers." He adds, "A couple have the ability to be impact players. The group has a bit of everything including size, shooting, leadership, versatility, and point guard play.   We certainly needed an infusion of talent into the program and I think this group provides it."

The newcomers with plans to join the Thunder in 2015-16 are:

Tyrel Derrick (Rathdrum, Idaho/Lakeland H.S.) is a six-foot guard who was a four-year starter and three-time team captain at Lakeland High School. He was twice named league MVP and earned four league titles in his prep career, guiding his squad to a league championship as a senior. A Second Team All-State performer, Tyrel was named the North Idaho "Male Athlete of the Year", averaging 16 points and six assists per game as a senior. Playing primarily at point guard, he tallied more than 1,000 points in his prep career.

Kobe Eichelberger (Maitland, Fla./Trinity Preparatory) is a six-foot-four-inch guard who was a four-year letterwinner in his high school career. He helped lead Trinity to a District (Class 3A) Championship and Runner-Up finish in his career. He earned a pair of First Team All-District honors in his career and also was named to the All-Orange County Team three times in his career. He averaged 17.6 points per game, with 6.5 rebounds per game and a 39.4% effort from three-point range as a senior, earning selection to the Florida Association of Basketball Coaches (FABC) All-Star Team.

Trevor Gunter (Flint, Texas/Grace Community School) is a six-foot-six-inch forward. He was a four-year letterwinner in high school, including three seasons as a starter. An All-State selection as a senior, he was named TAPPS 2-4A "Offensive Player of the Year" and earned All-District honors. In his senior campaign Trevor averaged 20.8 points per game, shooting 56% from the field, with 9.6 rebounds per game. He helped lead Grace Community School to a Bi-District Championship and Area Championship.

Reagan Jones (Fairfax Station, Va./Lake Braddock), is a six-foot-six-inch forward who comes to Wheaton following four seasons as a starter. He is the fourth-leading scorer in Lake Braddock High School history with 998 career points and 567 rebounds. As a senior he averaged 14 points and 10 rebounds per game and was named to the Capital Classic All-Star Team. Reagan helped lead Lake Braddock to a pair of conference championships and the state semifinals in 2013-14. He earned All-Conference recognition in his junior and senior seasons. 

Trae Masten (Fort Wayne, Ind./South Side H.S.) is a six-foot-seven-inch forward who was a three-year starter at South Side High School in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Trae earned First Team All-Conference honors for the Archers. As a senior he averaged 18.8 points per game for the squad.

Troy Morrison (Stone Mountain, Ga./Greater Atlanta Christian School/Phillips Exeter Academy - New Hampshire) is a 5' 11" guard who was a four-year starter at Greater Atlanta Christian School (GACS) prior to spending the 2014-15 season at Phillips Exeter Academy in Exeter, New Hampshire. As the starting point guard at GACS he helped lead the team to a school-record 50 consecutive wins and State Championships in 2013 and 2014. He earned Second Team All-State recognition from the Gwinnett Tip Off Club as a senior and was also named to the Gwinnett All-Star Team as a senior. 

Luke Peters (Medina, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy) is a six-foot-three-inch guard. Luke was a three-year starter at Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy, helping the program to a 63-17 record in that time. A First Team All-PAC conference honoree in his playing career, he helped lead the team to a league championship in his time there and a Sweet 16 appearance in the state tournament. As a senior he averaged 10 points per game with five rebounds per contest and was a All-Northeast Inland District selection.  

Michael Winowiecki (Douglas, Mich./Saugatuck H.S./Indiana Wesleyan University) is a six-foot-three-inch guard who transfers into Wheaton following his freshman campaign at Indiana Wesleyan University. He was a four-year starter and three-time team captain in his prep career at Saugatuck High School in Michigan, scoring more than 1,000 points in his career. He was an All-Conference, All-County and All-Area honoree in high school and was a BankHoops Second Team All-State performer (Class C), averaging 21.8 points per game as a senior.
