Brayden Teuscher earns Capital One Academic All-America recognition

Wheaton, Ill.- Wheaton College men's basketball standout Brayden Teuscher has been named to the Capital One Academic All-America Team for Division III Men's Basketball. Teuscher, a Third Team Academic All-American, is a senior Business/Economics major at Wheaton with a 3.55 cumulative grade point average.

Teuscher led the Thunder this season with an average of 19.6 points per game this season with a 46.6% (143-of-307) field goal percentage. He shot 34.2% (25-of-73) from three-point range and 90.9% (179-for-197) at the free throw line and he ranked second on the team with 2.7 assists per game. Teuscher currently leads Division III in made free throws (179), is sixth in Division III in free throw percentage (90.9%), 10th in the country in free throw attempts (197); 28th in total points (490) and 38th in points per game (19.6 PPG). 

Teuscher concluded his career with an 89.1% (416-for-467) free throw percentage over three seasons to set a new Wheaton record for career free throw percentage. He surpassed the previous school record of 88.7% (613-of-691) that was set by Kent Raymond (2005-09). Teuscher capped his three seasons at Wheaton with 1,248 points and tied for 30th on Wheaton's all-time scoring list.


The Academic All-District Team is a part of the Capital One Academic All-America program that honors student-athletes annually who have succeeded at the highest level in athletics and in the classroom. Members of the eight First Team Academic All-District squads in each Division advance to the national ballot, where they have the opportunity to be selected for the Capital One Academic All-America Team. Individuals are selected through voting by CoSIDA; a 2,000-plus member organization consisted of sports public relations professionals for colleges and universities in the United States and Canada. 
 
Through the years, Wheaton student-athletes have earned a total of 76 Academic All-American selections through the prestigious program. Since 2000, there have been 45 Academic All-American selections from Wheaton. Teuscher is the third Wheaton student-athlete to be named to the Capital Academic All-America Team in 2014-15 joining Jordan Golz (Men's Soccer) and Stephen Golz (Men's Soccer).

With Teuscher's selection, the Wheaton men's basketball program has produced seven Academic All-Americans: 
Nate Frank (1994-95); Jon Nielson (2004-05): Michael Fiddler (2006-07); Kent Raymond (2007-08 & 2008-09); Tim McCrary (2011-12); Tyler Peters (2013-14) and Teuscher.
 
To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at his/her current institution. Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 14,000 student-athletes in Division I, II, III, NAIA and junior colleges covering all NCAA championship sports.
