Winneconne, Wis. – The Wheaton women's cross country team competed at the 2014 NCAA Division III Midwest Regional on Saturday at Lake Breeze Golf Club in Winneconne, Wisconsin. Wheaton placed sixth in a field of 41 teams on Saturday and senior
Emma Shunk finished second in the region to qualify for the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships for the second consecutive year.
Washington University of St. Louis finished first in the 6K women's race with 62 points. UW-LaCrosse scored 91 points in second place, University of Chicago finished third with 99 points, North Central scored 149 points in fourth place, UW-Eau Claire placed fifth with 168 points, Wheaton finished sixth with 172 points, UW-Oshkosh scored 210 points in seventh place, Aurora finished eighth with 241 points, UW-Stevens Point scored 252 points in ninth place and UW-Stout rounded out the top-10 with 252 points.
Lucy Cheadle of Washington University won the women's race with a time of 20:55.50. Shunk finished just behind Cheadle in second place with a time of 21:05.70 to break her own school record in a 6K race. Laura Mead of UW-La Crosse finished third in 21:21.40. Shunk will compete at the Division III Cross Country Championships for the second consecutive year after finishing 13
th last year and earning All-American honors.
Jordan Tuin posted a time of 21:47.30 to finish 12
th and
Jessica Hawthorne (PICTURED LEFT) was 21
st in 22:05.80. Both Hawthorne and Tuin could earn selection as individual participants to the Division III Championships
in selections are announced on Sunday afternoon.
Hannah Barbour finished 60
th in 22:58.40 and senior
Abby Bullmore finished 77
th in 23;12.20. Sophomore
Anna Trujillo placed 98
th in 23:37.30 and freshman Rebecca Marcotte placed 127
th with a time of 24:06.00.
