Decatur, Ill. – The Wheaton women's cross country team finished second at the 2014 CCIW Women's Cross Country Championships on Saturday at Hickory Point Golf Course in Decatur, Ill. Wheaton senior
Emma Shunk won the CCIW Championship for the second consecutive year. Shunk becomes the first Wheaton student-athlete to repeat as the CCIW Women's Cross Country Champion since Amy Lindgren won back-to-back titles in 1988 and 1989.

North Central won the CCIW Women's Cross Country Championship with 26 points just ahead of Wheaton's second-place score of 36 points. North Central placed five runners in the top nine places, while Wheaton had competitors in first, third, seventh, 10th and 15th. Illinois Wesleyan finished third with 73 points, Augustana scored 98 points in fourth place, Elmhurst finished fifth with 160 points, Carthage scored 170 points in sixth place, Millikin scored 190 points in seventh place and North Park took eighth with 198 points.
Shunk, a senior, won the 6K Championship with a time of 21:58.37. Following the race, Shunk was honored as the 2014 CCIW Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Year. She was well ahead of second-place finisher Nora Ferguson's (North Central) time of 22:15.74.

Anna Trujillo ran the course in 23:28.80 to finish 19th and freshman Rebecca Marcotte was 30th in 23:45.27.

Scott Bradley noted of his team's performance. "We executed a great race and ran really well today. Our team keeps getting better with every race." He said of Shunk's Championship performance, "The race was bunched up in the first two miles and Emma made a move after that and she just decimated the field. She was the elite athlete at the meet. She should be set up for a strong effort at Regionals and Nationals in the coming weeks."
