Emma Shunk repeats as the CCIW Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week

Wheaton, Ill. – Wheaton senior Emma Shunk is this week's CCIW Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday morning. Shunk repeats in winning the award, as she also earned the honor last week. This week's recognition marks the fourth time in her career that Shunk has been honored as the CCIW Cross Country Athlete of the Week, the most of any student-athlete from the Wheaton women's Cross Country program. She also won the award on October 15, 2013 and October 22, 2013.

Shunk placed 27th in field of 559 runners at the UW-Oshkosh AAE Invitational on Saturday with a time of 21:54.39. She was the top performing runner from a CCIW school on Saturday as the meet featured a total of six CCIW programs. Shunk had the 15th-fastest time among all Division III runners at a meet that featured eight nationally-ranked Division III programs and three nationally-ranked Division II programs.

Shunk is the reigning CCIW Women's Cross Country Champion. In November of 2013 she earned All-American recognition as she finished 13th at the 2013 NCAA Division III Women's Cross Country Championships in Hanover, Indiana. Her finish of 13th was the highest placement ever by a runner from Wheaton at the Division III Women's Cross Country Championships and made her the third women's cross country All-American at Wheaton.

Wheaton's next event is the 2014 CCIW Championships on November 1 in Decatur, Illinois as Shunk attempts to defend her 2013 CCIW Championship. In defending her title, Shunk will look to become the first student-athlete to repeat as the CCIW Women's Cross Country Champion since Marisa Mele won CCIW Championships in 2004 and 2005.
