Winneconne, Wis. - The Wheaton College cross country teams participated in the UW-Oshkosh AAE Invitational on Saturday at Lake Breeze Golf Club in Winneconne, Wisconsin. The Thunder women's program finished 12th in a field of 42 teams that included eight nationally-ranked Division III programs and three nationally-ranked Division II programs.
Division II Grand Valley State won today's women's competition with 40 points, Minnesota-Duluth placed second with 98 points, Johns Hopkins finished third with 106 points, MIT placed fourth with 106 points, Augustana (S.D.) scored 135 points in fifth place, Calvin tallied 203 points in sixth place, Washington-St. Louis placed seventh with 215 points. Willamette scored 220 points in eighth place, University of Chicago scored 286 points in ninth place, St. Olaf finished 10th with 317 points, North Central (Ill.) took 11th with 376 points, Wheaton registered 404 points in 12th place, Carleton scored 424 points in 13th place, Lewis University scored 439 points in 14th place and Wartburg rounded out the top-15 with 448 points.
Lucy Cheadle of Washington-St. Louis won the 6K women's race with a time of 20:45. Sophia Meehan of Johns Hopkins finished second in 20:57 and Samantha Rivard of Minnesota-Duluth posted a time of 20:59 to finish third.
Wheaton's top performer was senior
Emma Shunk who posted a time of 21:55 to finish 26th in the field 559 women. Junior
Jordan Tuin placed 55th in 22:28 and
Jessica Hawthorne finished 62nd in 22:31. Rebecca Marcotte placed 116th in 23:13 and
Hannah Barbour posted a time of 23:37 in 145th. Wheaton's
Rachel Thomson placed 154th in 23:41 and
Abby Bullmore ran the course in 23:42 in 157th place.
The Thunder women's cross country team will be off until November 1 at the 2014 CCIW Cross Country Championships in Decatur, Illinois.
