Wheaton, Ill. – Wheaton senior
Emma Shunk is this week's CCIW Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday morning. This week's recognition marks the third time in her career that Shunk has been honored as the CCIW Cross Country Athlete of the Week. She also won the award on October 15, 2013 and October 22, 2013.
Shunk was the second-highest placing Division III Athlete at the UW-Parkside Lucian Rosa Invitational on Saturday. She finished 10th out of 271 runners with a time of 18:14.8 in the 5K race in Somers, Wisconsin. She helped lead the Thunder to a seventh-place finish as the highest-placing Division III team at the meet.
Shunk is the reigning CCIW Women's Cross Country Champion. In November of 2013 she earned All-American recognition as she finished 13th at the 2013 NCAA Division III Women's Cross Country Championships in Hanover, Indiana. Her finish of 13th was the highest placement ever by a runner from Wheaton at the Division III Women's Cross Country Championships and made her the third women's cross country All-American at Wheaton.
Shunk and the Thunder will return to action on October 18 in Winneconne, Wis., at the UW-Oshkosh AAE Invitational.
