Wheaton, Ill. - The 2012-13 Thunder Athletics calendar for 2012-13 is scheduled to open on August 30, beginning a full weekend of activities
The Wheaton football team will open its campaign on Thursday August 30 at 7 PM when it hosts Benedictine University at McCully Stadium. The season-opening game will mark the first time Wheaton has faced the Eagles since 1985. The contest is also believed to be Wheaton's first-ever mid-week home football game at McCully Stadium.
The 2012 Bob Baptista Invitational for both men's women's soccer will be held on Friday August 31 and Saturday September 1 at Joe Bean Stadium.
The defending Division III Runner-Up Thunder women's soccer team will host Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Friday at 4:30 PM and take on Principia College at 4:30 PM on Saturday. The season-opening tournament will start a year-long celebration of 25 years of Wheaton Women's Soccer, with weekend-long reunion of all of former Thunder/Crusader women's soccer players including a ceremony at halftime of Saturday's game against Principia.
The Thunder men's soccer team will open its season on Friday at the Bob Baptista Invitational with a 7 PM match against Kalamazoo College. On Saturday Wheaton will take on Principia College at 7 PM in the final match of the tournament. Wheaton's 1997 NCAA Division III National Championship Men's Soccer Team will hold a 15-year reunion during the weekend, culminating with their induction into Wheaton's Hall of Honor at halftime of Saturday's contest against Principia.
The Wheaton volleyball team begins the year with four matches on Friday and Saturday at the UW-Whitewater Invitational. The squad is scheduled to play Gustavus Adolphus College and Augsburg on Friday; with matches against UW-Oshkosh and UW-Whitewater on Saturday. Saturday September 1, the defending CCIW Champion Wheaton women's tennis team will open its season in an 11 AM match at conference foe North Central College.
The Thunder women's golf team will open its 2012-13 season on Friday at the Robert Morris University Fall Classic at Foss Park Golf Course in North Chicago, Illinois. The men's golf squad will begin its schedule on Friday at the Carthage College Fall Classic in Dundee, Illinois.
