Keri Shannon and Laura Karsten earn NSCAA All-American honors; five Thunder players named All-Region

Wheaton College seniors Laura Karsten and Keri Shannon have been selected to the 2012 NSCAA/Continental Tire Division III Women's Soccer Team, selected by the National Soccer Coaches Association (NSCAA) of America. Both Shannon and Karsten were First Team selections. Wheaton was one of three programs to have multiple players named to the 40-woman All-American Team.

Karsten and Shannon also each earned First Team All-Central Region recognition from the NSCAA. They were joined on the All-Region team by First Team selection Leah DeMoss (PICTURED LEFT) and Second Team honorees Alexa Sharkey and Ally Witt.

Wheaton posted a 21-4-2 record this season. The Thunder won the 2012 CCIW Women's Soccer Tournament to win the CCIW's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament, where Wheaton advanced to the NCAA Division III National Semifinals.

Laura Karsten was named as a First Team All-American and All-Region pick at defender, earning First Team All-American recognition for the second consecutive season. She keyed a Wheaton defense that posted a 0.78 goals against average this season with 13 shutouts, allowing 21 goals in 27 matches total matches. Karsten recorded four goals during the season, with one assist to her credit. During her Wheaton career, Karsten established a new school-record, appearing in 106 career matches with 19 goals and eight assists.

Keri Shannon earned First Team All-America recognition as a midfielder and also First Team All-Region. Shannon played in all 27 matches this season for the Thunder with three goals and six assists. A team captain and key leader for the National Semifinalist Thunder, Shannon was an integral part of Wheaton's success this season. In her four seasons with the Thunder, Shannon played in 101 matches with 22 goals and 23 assists. She is tied for 19th in school history in goals scored and 16th in career assists.
Ally Witt

Leah DeMoss earned recognition as a First Team All-Central Region forward in her first season with the Thunder after transferring from University of Iowa. DeMoss led the Thunder with 21 goals and 10 assists this year, including a team-best seven game-winning goals. In Wheaton's five NCAA Tournament matches in the postseason she scored three goals with one assist.

Alexa Sharkey
Freshman Ally Witt (PICTURED RIGHT) was honored as a Second Team All-Central Region pick with an outstanding debut season that saw her score 20 goals with six assists. Her 20 goals this season is the second-highest total in school history by a Wheaton freshman. In the five postseason matches for the Thunder this season she scored a team-best five goals, including one game-winning goal and added one assist.

Sophomore Alexa Sharkey (PICTURED LEFT) was tabbed as a Second Team All-Central Region selection at defender in her debut campaign with the Thunder after transferring from John Brown University. Sharkey distributed six assists this year, with three goals and was a key component of a Wheaton defense that posted a 0.78 goals against average this season with 13 shutouts, allowing 21 goals in 27 matches total matches.
